Mamallapuram - the Heaven of Mystery Mamallapuram is one of the few Indian sites like the Ajanta caves, Ellora Kailasanathar temple, Badami rock-cut cave temples which attracted me like the explorers. Since the 18th century, Mamallapuram was frequented by explorers and archeological enthusiastics. What attracted me at Mamallapuram were the ancient Pallava dynasty monuments. Mamallapuram is known for its Rathas (monlolithic temples in the form of chariots), Mandapas (rock-cut cave temples), colossal open air bas-reliefs (descent of the Ganges & Krishna Mandapam) & structural temples. Being a UNESCO world heritage site, Mamallapuram show cases the Dravidan architecture with artistic excellence.
